Diagnostics of molecular plasmas ; technology and fusion plasmas
The presence of molecules in hot fusion plasmas has recently become a hot topic since it influences the interpretation of the emission from the main gas (hydrogen/deuterium). It has come as a great surprise how much of the dynamics and structure of the molecules must be included in the interpretation of the radiation from the hot plamsa, e.g. how the molecules are born and survive will greatly influence the fluorescence emission. The interpretation of the molecular spectra can also give information on the rotational-vibrational state of the molecules and therby also on the temperature on the plasma environment.
In low temperature plasmas, industrial plasmas, the occurrence of molecular emission has given a new tool for the characterisation of the plasma and has also given new data for many of the occurring molecular processes.
This seminar will give an overview of the molecular processes of significance in a plasma and how the interpretation of molecular emission has proceeded.
